Wildlife Update

This past weekend, while my family was here, we took a short jaunt in town because someone, not mentioning any names Kyler, was getting a little restless just sitting around. The girls hit up some home decor shops while the guys went to the Bass Pro Shop. Although the ladies left empty-handed, Kyler brought home a salt block for our deer.

There it is, sitting down there on a block in a ravine-ish piece of land that we don't mow. We've seen deer around there the most, so we thought they'd most likely find it there. I must admit, I'm a little disappointed that we haven't seen any yet, and it's been 24 hours. The packaging specifically said 'Don't be surprised if deer immediately attack your acorn-flavored salt lick.'

Rest assured I'll keep you posted (literally) if we see any deer snacking on our salt.

In other news, I spied this bird hanging out on one of ours trees. I first saw it fly by and only saw the stripes on its head so I thought it was a Bluejay. But after further inspection, I do believe we have ourselves a wood pecker.

A quick video of our new friend. I tried to capture all the wood he was throwing off the tree, but you can't really see it.

We love the wildlife we see out here, but there's a specific kind that is totally unwelcome! Poison!

When we first moved in, Kyler weed whacked all the poison oak that was crawling up our trees. Seriously, there were huge vines taking over the tallest of trees. However, it didn't completely solve the problem, and we noticed that some of the vines were starting to inch their way back up. So Kyler bought some weed killer and we'll see if this method works better.

If you look closely, you can see the vines at the base of the tree that he's spraying.

And with that, you have our latest wildlife update.
