Timmmmmberrrrr!

We had a dead tree. Actually we have a few dead trees, but one in particular was giving us worry, so we had to do something about it.

Just outside of our bedroom window, there was a giant tree, towering over our roofline. Since the day we moved in, we said we'd take care of it by August. Well, August is well on its way, so it was time to do something about it.

See how it's lined up there between our bedroom and bathroom windows. That's not exactly an ideal place for a tree to fall...if there is such a thing. And despite our vow to get it taken care of before August, our assumption being that bad weather would come in the winter, we got hit by a few strong storms with horizontal winds. Every time I drove home in a storm, I was just hoping that the dead tree was still standing.

I know they're hard to see, but I tried to number the trees in this little cluster. #1 is the dead-as-a-door-nail tree that we needed removed. When we called to get a quote, the tree removal man said he'd take care of the little tree that was going to die beside it. #4 is a much smaller tree and we assumed he was referring that one.

When I got home from work, I found a couple of nice surprises.

Surprise #1: all of our wood was nicely stacked! We had no idea he was going to clean up for us, and Kyler had planned on stacking it.

Surprise #2: we were missing 3 trees! There was also another dead tree in the cluster, #3 in the photo above. However, it was leaning south and we figured once it fully died, we could take care of it if we must. Our major concern was the tree leaning towards our bedroom.

So there were a couple of nice surprises in our tree removal experience. Now hopefully we won't get a surprise on our bill for all of his extra work! If nothing else, we'll be able to sleep more peacefully during storms without worrying of our tree falling on the bed!

  1. So glad you didn't ask Dad to help do that job! :) Or Kristoffer...neither has a very good record in that department!
